Cape Town Cantata: Can't Keep From Singing

In August 2024, I spent two weeks in Cape Town, South Africa. This piece is a way of synthesizing my experiences. South African newsprint, sheet music for the song “Shosholoza,” the recipe for Bobotie, and articles on Cape Town are parts of the ephemera incorporated into the piece. The act of collaging these elements felt like creating a quilt of the many stories I encountered during my stay. Every texture, every scrap, every stroke is a tribute to the diverse cultures and the resilience of the people who call South Africa home. It was also a personal exploration of how food, art, and history can blend to create something new yet rooted deeply in tradition. Size: 9x 12, wired and ready to hang.
